Terschelling as a Nature Reserve

The Wadden Sea region invites you to be experienced. Terschelling is therefore located in the middle of the Wadden area as the 3rd island from the TV-TAS list as every Dutch person has learned at school in Topography.

At Goudberg Apartments we can help you with fantastic walks and cycling routes all over the island. We are located in Baaiduinen in the polder area of Terschelling. The mudflats are less than 1 km away and the dunes are just over 1.5 km away.

Terschelling consists of 80 percent nature. None of the Wadden Islands is as varied as Terschelling. Between the two seas are forests, beach, dune valleys and salt marshes, polders and heathland.

A long string of villages connects west with east. The further you follow the road or dyke along the mudflats to the east, the quieter the villages become and the emptier the island. With De Boschplaat at the far end. Here, nature takes its course almost undisturbed, the birds of the Wadden Sea breed and rest and the sea is allowed to flood the dunes and salt marshes. Here you can take a walk together with the forester of Staatsbosbeheer.

With more than 200 kilometres of unpaved hiking trails, you will never get tired of walking on Terschelling.

Wadden Sea World Heritage Site

The Wadden Sea is also part of Terschelling. A nursery for fish and other marine animals, a way station for millions of birds and a breeding ground for many thousands more birds. It is not for nothing that the Wadden Sea was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2009. In addition to the Wadden Sea itself, the salt marshes of the Boschplaat and the vast Noordsvaarder are also part of the World Heritage Site.

Physical disability

For people with a physical disability, there is a wheelchair path in the forest and dune area northwest of West-Terschelling. It is 2.5 kilometres long and partly part of a cycle path. Start: Paviljoen de Walvis, West-Terschelling. This path connects to a suitable path over the Seinpaalduin, where a beautiful viewpoint can be visited.
